Chiesa cattolica e riutilizzo sociale dei beni immobili confiscati alle mafie

DI LUIGI MARIANO GUZZO

ABSTRACT The social reuse of assets confiscated from mafia organizations is a powerful tool in combating organized crime, extending beyond punitive measures to foster social progress and spiritual healing. 1 This practice aligns with restorative and transformative justice principles. The Catholic Church in Italy actively participates in implementing state law concerning these assets, exploring the interplay between social and religious aims within anti-mafia initiatives. A key example is a church in Gioia Tauro (Reggio Calabria), the first and only Catholic place of worship built on confiscated mafia land, transforming a site of evil into a place of good.
