ABSTRACT – What secrets do Franz Kafka works conceal today? What enduring legacy did his words bestow upon the world after his time? And more specifically, what is the connection linking Kafka’s reflections to the core themes of the philosophy of law? The hundred-year anniversary of his passing is undoubtedly a tempting opportunity to try and draft a response. His novels and tales, like “Vor dem Gesetz”, are intricately woven with core categories of legal and philosophical thought, including that of law, legal language, the dynamic between governors and governed, and consequently, the interplay of authority and individuality. Considering this can modernity, today, truly benefit from the teaching of an author whose reflections are, in some respects, indecipherable?
