ABSTRACT – In the present contribution, the Author proposes a reflection upon the Goethian individual as depicted in Faust, whose tragedy of a double contradiction, the inner one between mutually incompatible ideas and feelings and the outer one between itself and the general history, embodies the modern individual’s unruhigen condition.
