ABSTRACT – Practice shows how the establishment of exclusive economic zones (EEZ) in the Mediterranean Sea is a legally complex and geopolitically delicate issue. After a cautious wait, Italy too is establishing its own EEZ. The aim of this study is to analyze law n. 91/2021 in the light of the theoretical framework of marine spaces in the Mediterranean basin and to outline the plausible prospects of an Italian EEZ.
