ABSTRACT – The essay is aimed at offering an unprecedented reading of
Olympe de Gouges’ thought, in the light of the non-violent vocation that
runs through it, and at highlighting the connection of her pacifist point of
view with the feminist topic that she, as is well known, among the first in
history, address. The result is a complex and stimulating vision, with
concrete proposals aimed at giving a voice to women in the public scene,
firmly maintaining a pacifist attitude that does not yield even in the most
critical moments of the fervent opposition both to the Ancien Régime and to
the violent ways of the Jacobin revolution.
