 DI CHARLIE BARNAO

ABSTRACT The subject of this article is the cultural connection between Nazism and managerial science. I will address the theme starting from the work of the French historian Johann Chapoutot. In the first part, the general principles and assumptions underlying a cultural history of Nazism will be outlined. Going into more details, I will then move on to consider some fundamental elements of the management culture within the project of Hitler’s Germany. In the concluding part of the article, I will present the history and scientific thinking of a central figure in the connection between management and Nazism. It is Reinhard Höhn, SS officer and director of the Institute for State Research at the Friedrich-Wilhelms-Universität of Berlin who, after the war, will translate Nazi ideas into the scientific discipline of management, founding the most important management school in Europe in Bad Harzburg and becoming its most popular and internationally known professor.
